HRSA UPDATES: Hospital Recertification Required

The annual recertification process is scheduled to begin on Aug. 6 and conclude on Sept. 10, 2014.

Hospitals should receive an email containing instructions from HRSA’s Office of Pharmacy Affairs (OPA) around Aug. 1 and will have five (5) weeks to complete the process after it begins on Aug. 6. The purpose of annual recertification is twofold:

  • Verifies the accuracy of entities’ information on the OPA covered entity database
  • Requires entities to certify that they meet the statutory requirements for 340B program participation

This helps to keep the integrity of the 340B program intact.  All entities that do not recertify will be eliminated from the 340B database. The authorizing agent listed in the HRSA data base is responsible to recertify their facility each year. All participating hospitals are required to recertify their eligibility with HRSA in August.

RxStrategies’ Recommendations: We strongly encourage hospitals to promptly update their information in OPA’s covered entity database, particularly email addresses and other contact information, in order to guard against missing this critical forthcoming recertification email in the future. If your authorizing official has changed in the past year, you must make the corrective changes.
